And then I simply finished this book. It was awesome except for the catastrophe... Dun, dun, dun.

Okay, then first of all: these books are amazing. I absolutely love the series and the mode of writing is funny and imaginative. The plot is well thought and I am awed at what an incredible story this is.

Second, the characters seem to come to life in front end of you lot and I can totally relate to some of them. Watching Alex and Connor grow up and growing up with them is a great gift. You won't want to put this serial down

I wouldn't trust my rating for this book. I'1000 honestly not sure if this series has actually decreased in quality, or I have just outgrown them, all I know is that I didn't enjoy this ane like I enjoyed the rest of the books.

I wouldn't trust my rating for this volume. I'm honestly not certain if this serial has actually decreased in quality, or I have just outgrown them, all I know is that I didn't enjoy this i like I enjoyed the rest of the books.

To be fair, I was having a lot of problem remembering what happened in the previous book. I really only can't wait a yr in between books; I forget everything!

I recall really enjoying the get-go three books. They were funny, had a great premise, and felt magical. I but didn't feel that way with the last two, especially this one. Maybe it is because I'm getting older and have outgrown books with such a immature and dizzy tone, but I could pinpoint a lot of issues, so I practise call back that this one was the weakest one.

This one mostly follows Conner and Alex as they venture into Conner'due south stories in order to recruit his characters to help them in fairytale earth.

I'm pretty sure it'southward every writer'southward dream to go hang out in the world they created with their characters, but this plot felt similar complete filler. It felt so dragged out, and I honestly didn't care almost Conner'due south characters. We already had an established cast of characters from the first four books, we didn't demand a agglomeration of new ones.

That'due south ane of the big problems with this one; too many characters.

Omg, there are So many! Like why practise nosotros need to encounter from the point of view of the Volume Huggers? What even is that random plotline? I like seeing a lot of perspectives, but when you lot accept that many characters it becomes hard to be invested in any of them.

This volume is also ridiculously long. There are some books that tin be over 400 pages and that'southward the right length, only this isn't one of them. So much of this book is made upwardly of unnecessary filler and set up, which made me have an overall tedious reading experience where I was just waiting for information technology to exist washed.

There are interesting bits, like back in fairytale world. It was hard for me to care though, considering the The Masked Man is a cartoonishly evil and one dimensional villain.

Pretty sure I've pointed this out in my review for each book in the series but THE ITALICIZING! Omg, I have never, in all the books I have e'er read, seen someone then obsessed with the italics button. Similar, it's condign harder and harder for me to deal with. It'south just bad writing.

I'one thousand assuming (and hoping) that the next volume is the last. I volition be reading it, considering I like the main characters and have already spent my time reading five books in this series, but I don't recollect I would recommend them at this point.

Best disappointment of my life. The most I can say without getting really mad, is that this book is trash, and Colfer clearly hasn't read much written by twelve year old children. Reread #1: An extremely quick read for 400-ish pages. I love the concept (this seems to be happening to me a lot these days), but the writing was a disaster of ellipses, italics, and caps lock dialogue.

The characters definitely grew from The Enchantress Returns, but I kinda forgot what happened in A Grimm Warning and Beyond the Kingdoms, then I don't really know. I remember the invasion, Rook, and the vague outline of the gamble, but I have no details that I can ostend or deny that happened.

There were stiff women, Alex got on my fretfulness a bit, Connor was meh and not that funny, and Bob and Charlotte were the best role of the book. The fantasy characters come up close 2nd though. There is no possible way that these kids are 15. In that location is no logic in that. I know, I know it's supposed to be a series and they abound up, but none of them accept any sensibility except for Bree. Seriously. They [Alex and Connor] have been surviving in the fairytale world for at least three years, haven't they learned any cocky preservation or just logic in general. I will admit that I am existence unfair to these characters and judging them harshly as a person who reads mostly YA stuff and I am not in the target audition, only I expected more.
(view spoiler)[There was this one scene with one of Connor's characters and he saves the character's life and the graphic symbol is all "Oh my god, thank yous for saving me. I thought yous would permit me die later on how I treated yous." or something forth those lines and it got on my nerves. Because 1. Who talks like that? and two. Not every character needs to be a superfan of the twins. It just felt like a really unrealistic slice of dialogue that could accept easily been cropped out and swapped in with some other phrase while they were running for their lives. (hide spoiler)]

The writing was a hot mess to say the least. At the commencement I thought that the writing had improved, simply if annihilation it got worse. It's for the children, simply I don't demand to be spoon fed everything. For example, it would conspicuously state something in dialogue and so describe it in an inner monologue or vice versa. I get the emotions I am supposed to experience, alright? I'g not a total robot. Then on top of that, nosotros get ellipses to end chapters left and right, italics every other paragraph, and caps lock every other piece of dialogue. Oh my gosh, that was a mess to read and sympathise. Half of the staff that was italicized or capitalized didn't even demand to exist.
In that location are but three ways to talk evidently: whispering, talking usually, or yelling. (view spoiler)[One of the scenes that stuck out the most to me for unnecessary yelling was when Goldilocks and Red were having a conversation on baby names and Alex and Connor walk in. To announce the twins' presence, Goldi yells across the room which feels very out of character for her, but then once again she'south pregnant and her hormones are going wild. (hide spoiler)]

The twists were honestly pretty cool and felt relatively high stakes. I know that Bree and her cousins are important to the plot of the adjacent book, but every time the story switched from Alex and Connor to Bree, it was abrasive. Information technology may accept just been me because I had little to no knowledge of these two people. My complaint is that I felt detached from Bree's character and her plotline.

I might read the 6th book considering I really liked the finale the last time I read it, but this might be (heavy emphasis on might exist) my farewell to this series. I loved information technology while it lasted, but at that place are amend books in this universe that I could read.

When the twins and their friends enter worlds crafted from Conner'due south imagination, finding allies no one else could take ever dreamed of, the race begins to put an terminate to the Masked Human's reign of terror. Tin the twins finally restore peace in the fairy tale world?"

The plot was super engaging and I felt drawn to it. I institute the stories that Conner and Alex travelled into more engaging alive.

Writing
Like always, it was

~Funny

"'What would you lot do if somebody just cam up and told you yous were a character in his story?" Alex asked.
'I would punch him in the face up for making this then difficult!'"

~Wise (why is it always and then wise)

Characters
There were a lot of characters and so I'll merely go over my overall view.

As I said, the characters grew tremendously. Each story the twins visited added to the already growing listing.
The characters were usually okay but a lot of times they weren't complete. Chris Colfer became the victim of his ain writing. Or so I thought. Until th characters started gaining depth and coulour. They became interesting to read almost and information technology was nice to read little from their point of view after Alex and Conner just recruited somebody. It was like a break.

It feelt good to read this and I was sucked in with every word.

Read this in one sitting and was at the edge of my seat the whole time. Thank god the Masked Man is gone. He was getting annoying and the witches and literary villains are a much more menacing antagonist. He had a very fitting ending.
All the plotlines, Grimm, Himmelsbach, Witches, Twins, are converging. I think that the concluding chapter with the President could have been done amend. The plan with the grit draws from an old fairy tale not well-known. so kudos to Chris for using information technology.
Charlotte had some great scenes in the book that showed her as a character not just their absentee mother.
Adjacent book is going to have lots of sudden meetings allowing all the groups to work together because that army is now going to have to fight witches, not the masked man's army though they will likewise have to exercise that to free the fairy tale world. I promise that information technology doesn't lead to a double world thing where regular people travel dorsum and along and the worlds are symbiotically together.

He uses it to its all-time comic ability. This works very well. I am quite a big fan of middle-course fiction, I like its freedom and imagination every bit well as how anything can happen.
